Practice Structure

With effect from 1 July 2012, Thompsons Solicitors became incorporated pursuant to the Solicitors’ (Incorporated Practice) Regulations 2007 (‘the Regulations’) of the Law Society of Northern Ireland.

As a result the partnership of Thompsons Solicitors transferred to Thompsons (Northern Ireland) Limited (“the Company”) the entirety of its goodwill, business and assets and the Company assumed all of the liabilities and commitments of the partnership. The transfer included the assignment to the Company of all contracts, including client engagements, with effect from 1 July 2012. All related documents, records, confidential or privileged information and intellectual property have been transferred to the Company and the partnership has ceased to trade.

The Company is registered in Northern Ireland (company number NI 612574) and continues to use the name ‘Thompsons Solicitors’ as the trading name of the business. In practical terms there has been no noticeable or obvious changes – the change in status has not affected the services we provide to our clients and the same staff continue to provide services to our clients.  Mark Jackson and Simon Willis, who were the partners in the partnership, are now Directors of the Company and, whilst the Company has limited liability, they may continue to be referred to as “partners”. However any reference to them as partners does not imply the business continues as a partnership and is simply a means of designation.

The Company is regulated by the Law Society of Northern Ireland who approved the change in status by issuing a Certificate of Recognition pursuant to the Regulations.
